Dermal Fillers
Dermal Filler - For enhancement of facial features
Dermal fillers are injections containing hyaluronic acid, a natural and
essential component of the body. Due to the skin aging process hyaluronic
acid biologically diminishes with time resulting in a loss of skin tone,
volume and an increase in the appearance of wrinkles. Each year thousands of
people world-wide receive wrinkle treatments with hyaluronic acid because it
works, it is not as expensive as a face lift and it doesn’t involve any
surgery.
It has already been used widely in general medicine to help eye surgeons
perform cataract operations, and for injection into arthritic joints to aid
movement. Fillers come in different thicknesses, and a consultation is
important to determine which dermal filler your face will benefit most from.
How does it work?
Dermal fillers are injected into the skin in areas where it needs to
be plumped up again and made to look firmer. Over time, the
substances are broke down by the body's enzyme systems and passed
out of the body in the natural way. Your skin will gradually return
to what it looked like before the treatment, unless you have a
top-up treatment.
What areas can be treated? 1. Reduce
forehead, glabella and periorbital wrinkles 2. Augmentation /
enhancing cheekbones and chin 3. Smooth out nasolabial folds and
oral commissures 4. Improve lip volume and define lip border &
contour 5. Restore a more sensual cupid's bowThe treatment
This is a very safe treatment and no pre-testing is needed.
The procedure takes 15-30 minutes depending on the volume
of filler required for treatment. Results are immediate.
A FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION is offered to discuss what treatment you
would benefit from, a medical questionnaire and consent form must be
signed before any treatment. Before and after images taken to show
you how successful your treatment has been.
First, the area
to be injected will be cleaned with an antiseptic wipe. We always
apply topical anaesthetic to make the procedure less comfortable.
Before injections in the lips, a dental or lip block may be used,
where a small amount of lignocaine (an anaesthetic like the ones
used by dentists) is injected into the lip area to help to numb them
prior to treatment. |

Depending on the area treated, and which filler is used, treatment times can
vary from around 30 minutes to an hour, and recovery time can be from a few
hours to a few days. However, most people find that they can return straight
back to work after treatment with dermal fillers.
Some redness and slight swelling at
the site of injection may be experienced for a couple of days following the
treatment. Lip swelling may take up to a week to settle. All our clients are
seen after 2 weeks for follow-up. Depending on the type of filler used, and
the area treated, top up treatments are usually required to maintain the
effect. Results will last for about 6 months, with repeat treatments
offering longer lasting results.
